HashtagPLUS is the idea that hashtags should work across the open web, across communities, and eventually across the physical world instead of being trapped inside one platform.
What HashtagPLUS is trying to solve
- Discovery on the web is still too dependent on closed feeds and platform-controlled algorithms.
- Hashtags should be portable signals that help people follow topics, not just accounts.
- Public and private conversations should be able to organize around the same shared tags.
- People should be able to escape filter bubbles by moving through ideas and topics more directly.
What the system should make possible
Across sites
Tag a topic once and make that signal useful across different websites, communities, and publishing surfaces.
Across formats
Use hashtags for posts, events, media, local groups, experiments, and physical-world references without changing the underlying idea.
Across contexts
Connect public discussion, creator publishing, and topic-based navigation in a way that feels more open and less siloed.
Why this still matters
The mission is still the same: give people a better way to discover, organize, and own topic-based information online. The current alpha is the first practical step toward making that vision testable instead of theoretical.
